Near the end of my trip, I went back to North Beach and decided to hike the length of the beach to Rose Spit. This is the north eastern tip of the island. When I got there, the weather had started to turn a bit ugly. Not really raining, but definitely not clear skies either. The ocean was quite turbulent, and the waves were crashing the beach in a spectacular fashion. From the pictures below, you can get the idea, but in reality, some of the waves hitting the beach were upwards of 5-6 feet high. Take a look.

Looking toward Rose Spit |
This is not a
hike for the timid. It's about 15 kilometers each way, and a lot
of it is on sand and rocky beaches. It was kind of nice to see this
beach during stormy conditions as a week earlier when we were here, it
was calm and sunny, and the different perspective was amazing.
One cool thing
about North Beach is that you can actually get your vehicle out on the
beach and drive along for quite a ways. I wouldn't go and park your
vehicle on the beach overnight though, it may just be gone or sunk in the
sand in the morning. Personally, I parked mine in the parking lot
and walked in the whole way.
